services

The Nurtured Way offers a variety of services to suit your needs. I’ve written brief summaries below, and you can click through to the individual pages for more detailed information.

Birth Doula Services

I am currently available to attend births in the Greater Philadelphia Area.  Check out the calendar on the Birth Doula page for easy access to my availability. As of 4/11/10, I have spaces open in May, early June, late August, September, October, and November.

Working with a Birth Doula can :

  • Result in a shorter labor with fewer complications
  • Reduce the need for interventions, including pitocin, epidurals, vacuum extraction, forceps, and cesarean
  • Increase success with breastfeeding
  • Reduce the chance of postpartum depression

Postpartum Doula Services

As a postpartum doula my role is to provide consistent hands-on support to you in the first weeks or months after your baby arrives.

This service is good for:

  • First-time parents
  • Moms who don’t have a lot of family or friends to help after baby arrives
  • Families where the partner has to go back to work soon after the birth
  • Mothers who are recovering from a cesarean
  • Parents of multiples
  • Parents with older children
  • Parents who have recently adopted

The “eDoula” Plan

The eDoula plan is a unique option that offers “virtual” doula services (virtual in that we communicate via email or phone – it is not an automated service – I personally communicate with all of my clients) to women and families in a variety of situations.

This option is great for anyone who is:

  • On a budget or looking for flexibility
  • Looking for a pregnancy resource who will take the time to get to know you, and who can be accessed via email at any time throughout the entire pregnancy and postpartum period
  • Not interested in having a doula physically attend her during birth or postpartum, but would still like access to the holistic, nurturing support that a doula is trained to provide

Consultations

I offer two types of consultation services: prenatal and breastfeeding. All consultations take place in my South Philadelphia office except by special arrangement.

Prenatal Consultations:

  • For parents who have questions that they prefer to discuss “face to face”
  • For mothers who are interested in nutritional evaluation and recommendation
  • For mothers who would like to discuss alternative care recommendations

Breastfeeding Consultations:

  • For mothers with questions about breastfeeding
  • For mothers looking for early breastfeeding support (if I am unable to help you I will offer my recommendations at this time)
  • For mothers who are considering external support and need referrals
